Beetles and Cockroaches

Beetles and cockroaches are very ancient species. They prefer dark environments and they easily adapt to inhabited areas. Polyphagia characterises them. They can enter closed environments through cracks on walls, windows and doors, drainage canals and pipes.

Stink bugs

The fear related to Rhynchota insects are growing since when the brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) has imposed itself upon the local green stink bug (Nezara viridula). The harmful effects of the brown marmorated stink bugs are not always recognized.
In cultivated lands, the damages caused by these phytophagous insects can be seen mainly on grain crops and fruit trees. In civil and industrial environments these damages affect mostly food industry operators. The risks of food contamination are very high. For this reason, strict Pest Management measures must be put in action to avoid serious consequences.

Bedbugs

Bed bugs (Cimex Lectularius) are present in indoor environments especially in cracks on walls and corners, old furniture, wallpapers, wooden walls, but they can also hide in mattresses and pillows, causing a real danger for human beings. It is therefore necessary an adequate monitoring. Sometimes malodorous substances (caused by insects’ repugnatorial glands) can be smelled in the infested environments as a sign of their presence, but as bed bugs prefer darkness, they can easily go unnoticed.

Ants

Ants are social insects which can walk long distances looking for sugary substances. They enter closed environments through small fissures on doors and windows. Once inside, ants walk long distances, colonizing also the higher floors of the buildings. Anthills can be found commonly on the ground, but sometimes also in insulated structures and electric switchboards.

Foodstuff insects

All foodstuff and food products are threatened by pests. Due to foodstuff insects’ evolutionary advantages, polyphagia and easy adaptability in every environment imaginable, storage centres or agri-food processing industries have to face their proliferation.

Weeds

There are different species of weeds which grow fast in any type of ground. Some of them are poisonous also for animals which eat them unconsciously. They can be easily eradicated, but if left unattended, they grow considerably and become hard to extirpate.

Flies and blowflies

The strong presence of flies and blowflies can be considered a health and hygiene hazard not only in civil environments but also in the livestock industry. It is fundamental to implement a flies control plan and coordinate a well-defined and successful strategy, conducted step by step and including prevention, integrated and direct pest control.

Plant pests

Insects and mites can be responsible of the diseases which affect ornamental plants. Seasonality is what plant pests have in common. Plant pests attack mainly during spring and summer, when temperatures are more appropriate. According to Newpharm®, plant pest control must be conducted with integrated and cutting-edge technical solutions.

Lices

Lices are hematophagous parasites which stick on human skin and lay their eggs near hair roots causing itching and redness. Direct or close contact with people having lice is the most common transmission mechanism. Lice can be found also in public areas, especially in chairs pads, cushions or carpets.

Fleas

Fleas are hematophagous parasites which are possible pathogen carriers. They can affect not only human beings, but also livestock, compromising their health. Dermatitis and mild or severe allergies are the principal effects caused by flea infestation.

Spiders

Arachnids can be easily found in urban areas, especially where cleaning procedures are not carried out regularly. Spider nets are clear signs of their presence, but they can also be found where dust, leftovers and waste are present.

Rodents

Among the pests which share human environments, rodents are a clear example. They are very prolific vegetarian mammals. Rats and mice are parasite and germ carriers which can transmit these microorganisms to human beings. Therefore, rodent control requires astuteness and foresight to avoid their settlement in closed rooms and areas.

Woodworms

Woodworms are beetles which eat wood fibres creating irregularities on wood surfaces and interior damages to wood structures. Eggs are laid in cracks of natural wood which is not properly treated. During the larval development these insects eat cellulose, lignin and starch, producing sawdust and creating galleries. Once their biological life cycle has come to an end, beetles leave wood through superficial holes.

Moths

Pests attacking wool and fur are characterized by the ability of digest keratin and high-protein substrates. Every piece of clothing, especially if not clean, can be attacked by different species of Lepidoptera. The Tinea Pellionella is certainly the most common species of lepidoptera, while among the beetles, the family of Dermestidae is the one which includes more species.

Termites

Termites are wood eaters. They can endanger entire wood structures and cultivations. Their presence is not always detectable if you are not an expert. Localised infestation in doors and windows can be spotted. Termites, in fact, produce excrements which absorb external humidity causing the swelling of wood.

Wasps and bumblebees

Wasps and bumblebees are equipped with a sting for self-defence. They can sting multiple times causing local or general allergic reactions in those people who are sensitive to their venom. During springtime, these insects form colonies which can host up to a hundred wasps and bumblebees. They build their nests in the ground, trees or under roofs and balconies.

Birds

A continued presence of birds around buildings and monuments can compromise their structures because guano which melts in water can be very acid and corrosive. In fact, guano melts the calcium carbonate which is present in different kind of materials. Besides that, guano contributes to the formation of fungi and moulds.

Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are particularly aggressive from dusk to dawn. They suck blood to vertebrates in order to activate eggs maturation. Mosquitoes are virus and germ vectors, in fact, they can carry serious diseases. The most suitable environments for their diffusion are ecological niches in domestic and urban areas. For example, manholes are tiger mosquitos’ ideal environments for their diffusion.
