Coleoptera Back to Target Insect

The weevil has dimensions ranging from 2 to 5 mm and attacks without distinction grain cereals (although each species is named after a preferred substrate) and pasta. Adults generally live between 100 and 250 days with an average development cycle of 25-30 days. Among their peculiarities, Palm Weevils, with their mouthparts, can pierce the packaging and colonise the goods inside.

The Lesser Grain Borer measures on average 3 mm and the substrates attacked are pasta and grain cereals. The development cycle lasts one month and the life of the adult lasts for about 200 days. Despite the tiny dimensions, R. dominica is easily able to penetrate packaging.
